Scottsboro Streaks Past Springville
to Claim AHSAA 5A Duals Tourney Title
BIRMINGHAM – Scottsboro High School captured its third AHSAA Duals Tourney wrestling title Saturday at Bill Harris Arena with a dominating performance in the semifinals and finals.
The Wildcats (15-1), coached by Chris Staton, won the Class 5A title for the second year in a row beating Springville 57-22 in the finals Saturday at Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham CrossPlex. Scottsboro beat Tallassee in 2024 for the title. The Tigers dropped to 1A/4A this season and rolled to the state duals crown in the morning session. Scottsboro won its first duals title winning the 1A-5A division in 2019.
Scottsboro posted five pins in a row – starting with Stone Staton pinning Aiden Hand in the 1289-pound division Saturday to take control of the championship match. His win was followed by Jackson Dupree (134 pounds), Isaac Ferguson (140 pounds, John Stewart (146 pounds), Josh Draskovic (152) pounds all winning by falls. Draskovic won his match in just 34 seconds.
Springville’s Callen Hettich pinned Caleb Adams at 159 pounds to end the string of falls by the Wildcats. The Tigers (21-12) were making their first appearance in the duals finals.
Elmore County (22-11) beat Beauregard (26-11) 63-16 in the consolation finals. Scottsboro downed Elmore County 65-11 and Springville topped Beauregard 47-35 in the semis earlier Saturday.
