Collinsville Claims First 1A-3A Boys’
State Soccer Crown since 2013

  HUNTSVILLE – Five different players scored goals Friday for Collinsville High School’s boys’ soccer team as the Panthers rolled to a 5-2 victory over Tuscaloosa Academy in the AHSAA Class 1A/3A Boys’ State Soccer Championship match at Loretta P. Spencer Sports Complex / John Hunt Soccer Park.
     The state title was the second in Collinsville school history and the first since 2013.
     Class 1A/3A state championship game MVP Jefferson Acevedo scored the opening goal at the 20:08 giving the Panthers of Coach Jeff Stanley a 1-0 lead and Collinsville (22-3-1) never trailed.
    The Panthers stretched the lead to 4-0 early in the second half thanks to goals from Eddy Ortiz, Alex Herrea, and Jan SeguraTuscaloosa Academy finally got on the board at 60:20 in the second half when Anton Schmidt scored for the Knights (21-6-0), coached by Carter Hill. Senior Danillo Stojakovic cut the lead to 4-2 eight minutes later, but Collinsville closed out the win with a goal byAaron Herrera.
    
Collinsville also got an outstanding game from keeper Jinen Shukal, who had seven saves in the contest. Owen Price had five for Tuscaloosa Academy.
    The Knights captured their third AHSAA state runner-up trophy with their second-place finish in the soccer championships. Tuscaloosa Academy also finished runner-up in football and basketball this school year.
    The AHSAA’s 34th State Soccer Championships continued Friday with state finals with the boys’ finals in Class 4A and 5A.
    Classes 6A and 7A play their championship matches Saturday at John Hunt Soccer Park. All finals are being video live streamed over the NFHS Network’s subscriber-based platform. For more information, go to www.nfhsnetwork.com .
