UNA Football Games to Count in Big South Standings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced today that six of the University of North Alabama's football games against conference opponents will count in the league standings during the 2021 season.

An associate member of the Big South, North Alabama is still not eligible to win the Big South Championship or compete in the FCS Playoffs this coming season as part of the Lions' final year of transitioning to Division I.  UNA competed in the Big South Conference in 2019 but the Lions' games did not count in the conference standings.

The inclusion of UNA allows the remaining eight members -- Campbell, Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, Hampton, Kennesaw State, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T and Robert Morris -- to have seven countable conference games, marking the league’s first-ever 7-game Big South schedule.

North Alabama’s game against Robert Morris will remain a non-conference contest, as the Colonials were already scheduled against the seven other teams.  UNA will play a 6-game Big South schedule this fall, which is as follows (all times ET):

UNA's BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE GAMES FOR 2021

Oct. 2     CAMPBELL *                     7:00pm

Oct. 9     at North Carolina A&T *      1:00pm

Oct. 23    CHARLESTON SOUTHERN *    3:00pm

Nov. 6    at Monmouth *                 1:00pm

Nov. 13   KENNESAW STATE *            3:00pm

Nov. 20  at Hampton *                   1:00pm

Meanwhile, the Big South Football Directors of Athletics have voted to declare a contest that is not completed due to COVID-related reasons a ‘forfeit’ by the institution responsible for the cancellation.
